The next generation of PCW icons
I’m in the process of signing off on the next generation of PCW icons. To date there have been 27 icons, that have be used in Provocative Change Works. These allow the practitioner to provoke useful adn lasting changes in group and 1 – 1 sessions. I first created these over a decade ago after spending many years up close with Frank Farrelly The icon system has been invaluable in explaining and teaching Frank’s work and I’ve created a whole series of great exercises that really help develop the ability to improvise and work in the here and now.
Expanding the existing 27 icons

There are masses of options using combinations of these 27 stances, but the PCW model is in a constant stage of evolution and refinement. The last two years during covid 19 have given me the time to reflect on additional icons that will exapnd and improve on the original set. I’m increasingly convinced that one of the keys to problem resolution is by using micro adjustments to ‘find the difference that makes the difference. PCW is like jazz, there is lots of scope for exploration and improvisation. This is a very far cry from many approaches that reply on following logical, digital sequential sequences. Learning the stances is like learning the keys scales in music as a foundation to then be able to improvise and create something original.
Collaboration and exploration
Discussions with existing PCW practitioners has been invaluable in brainstorming ideas for additional icons. My plan is to include this new generation of icons in trainings starting in September. We’ll also be looking at stance combinations, that add a whole ne dimension to what is possible.
