Live trainings during covid 19, a good idea?
14 months ago I had an extraordinary schedule of PCW trainings planned across the globe. Then the advent of covid 19, meant everything has been put on hold. Aside from my personal enthusiasm to run live events, I now have to factor in health and safety for myself, my wife and those attending. Not everyone fully understands the implications of what is happening globally at present and some of the posts and communications I see online are beyond delusional, and that’s being polite to sat the least.
Right now as I type this blog entry, if I travel to many countries, even if I can get into the country, on return I have to isolate for 10 days. With the advent of the Indian variant, the numbers of cases of covid and hospitalisations are on the rise. I could find myself stuck in a country and not able to get back to the UK, or having to incur a great deal of unexpected expense. In other words the situation is totally UNPREDICTABLE.
Pesky common sense and duty of care
I have moved many trainings online to ensure that students are able to access PCW material without the possibility of ill health or death. This seems to me to be entirely sensible, during a global health pandemic that has already seen the cancellation of all major sports and entertainment activities across the globe. The level of uncertainty means that its a gamble to book flights and accomodation. Another challenge is how the training will unfold if all those attending are wearing masks like some ER ward.
For me much as I love running live in person trainings, proper duty of care are the main considerations. Any intelligent trainer of event host will of course appreciate this simple truth. Hopefully things will improve and we can return to a more stable situation where we can meet face to face.
