2nd Gen Provocative Change Works Training

Next month we start the first 2nd generation PCW certification training. We have people attending from literally all over the globe for this one year course and there will be a lot of more in depth explorations and refinements for the model.

What’s new with 2nd generation PCW?

In the last few years I’ve been looking at expanding the model and how it can be used in a range of different applications. These include sports, business, personal change as well as in therapy. In all these instances we are engaging in problem solving, finding out “the difference that makes the difference” Frank Farrelly’s brilliant work is central to the model, and the model now includes metaphorical explorations and challenges, an increased number of provocative stances and other new elements.

A number of years ago I started exploring the question of ‘what makes the problem the problem?” identifying key ingredients that are essential for each problem state. If we look at the condition like anxiety, “the obvious ingredients” or characteristics would include unhelpful anticipation, too much thinking/processing and an unpleasant feeling. The task for the coach is then to present the opposite of these ingredients. This then helps to reduce anticipation and thinking and to create a better overall feeling.

This means discovering how to be more present in the here and now. The original 27 PCW icons will now be expanded to include a variety of new stances which now add a new dynamic to PCW sessions. The model is in a constant state of development and refinement and this 2022/2023 course will be a great opportunity to further develop the model.

Course format for skills development

The one year PCW training includes 10 hours 1 – 1 work with myself as well as the live monthly group trainings and additional group practice sessions. This gives maximum flexibility and ensures that everyone gets the very best attention. My plan is to create specialists in using the model and 1 -1 sessions really help with this. The monthly groups are carefully constructed to include video deconstructions of PCW and Frank Farrelly’s classic approach, live demos, group exercises and homework. This format has worked brilliantly to date and I’m keen to expand this format. The course starts on Sept 17th and runs for 12 months.
