Confusion is the welcome mat at the door of creativity
Michael J. Gelb
"Many clients have repeated 'stuck state behaviours' to such a degree that they are 'certain' that this is and will continue to remain the only behavioural choice available to them. The technique of confusing the client is to begin to change the behavioural generalisations and beliefs. There are lots of ways to achieve this including misdirection, deliberately mishearing the client, suggesting insane solutions to 'the problem' (as explored in classic Provocative Therapy) Having induced a useful state of confusion the practitioner can then take the client through a series of other states, so its virtually impossible for them to access the previous belief."
